Password Generator

  • You must press F9 before the first printout!! And then do it again to get a new set of passwords.
  • Do you use your dog's name to log into every website? This is a spreadsheet (not really a template, but that's all OO.o will take) to print pages for your little-black-book of passwords. Yes, I am advocating keeping a hardcopy of your passwords here. Most account hacking doesn't involve breaking into your home, so you're, like, 98% safer at this.
  • To protect against the guy that does steal your password book, you should have another password IN YOUR HEAD, that you pre/postpend onto the passwords presented here. A convenient checkbox is given to mark onto which end your secret goes. It's probably not the end of the world if this memorized password has a wet nose.
  • Recovery passwords, such as your "Mother's Maiden Name" and "Planet Of Birth" are another menace. You should check with Bruce Schneier first, but I feel safer using an equal level of security for such passwords.
  • This took the better part of a day for an OO newbie to write, so bear that in mind before migrating the whole enterprise to using this.
  • Flaws I know about - this is rather hardcoded to make EIGHT and only eight character passwords. It doesn't use the whole alphanumeribet, I trimmed off the more confusible characters (Faxanadu, anyone?). I have done nothing to ensure that random distribution is even, and probably too little about boundry errors. There shall always be exactly 1 number, and 1 special character (seeing as that's popular with password bouncers). I believe capitalness is random, set at 50% of the 6 letters present. Not mathematically pure randomness, but, again, I'm just trying to keep "Rex" out of my dad's bank password.
  • A set of passwords is saved in the spreadsheet, and only re-rolled when the file loads or F9. If you print, save, and pass on a copy of this spreadsheet, you will be handing out your passwords! If you didn't press F9 and OO.o didn't re-roll your passwords, then let me close by restating, YOU WILL HAVE THE MOST PREDICTABLE PASSWORDS ON THE NET! Don't let that happen!
