Even though this template is used for demonstration purposes, it can actually be used as an A6 document. I have attempted to measure it out to the correct size.
This template shows you how use the news feeds, that OpenOffice.org Templates provides, to broadcast your change log.
You could use the description area, or even the comments section, but before you decide to do it, read my blog entry, "ODF Template Update Notifications" on the topic. I try to explain why you shouldn't do that.
Let us begin our demonstration. Click on the "ISO-shape" tag, then scroll to the bottom of the page, and then click on the news feed icon. You'll see that the news feed simply tells us the title of the template, the date of when it was last updated, the author, and the subject.
You can't really control the date and the author. You can control the name, but you don't really want to fiddle with it very much. You don't really want to fiddle with the subject, either, but it is relatively redundant, because the description can be used to explain everything in lots of detail. That means the subject is pretty much the only option, for updating your subscribers, via news feed.
You could do what I did. I tried to give a decent subject to this template, and then place a brief change log in brackets, in the subject line. I only need to let the subscriber know whether or not he needs to download the updated version.
In some cases, my updates might be minor spelling mistakes, or basic cosmetic changes. If it isn't necessary to download it again, then we could reduce data consumption.
After you examine or try this template, please fill in a satisfaction survey for me, so that I can get some good feedback, and then make improvements.
There aren't enough ODF templates out there. For more information on my attempts to create a lot of complete sets of ODF templates, read my blog entries about templates.
